Safety Vision police car camera captures runaway tire: as featured on ABC, CNN, and FOX News

Safety Vision law enforcement customer Sgt. Matthew Davidson of the Harris County Precinct 8 Constable’s Office barely escaped severe injury yesterday—when a 200-pound tire that was let loose from a semi truck nicked past him at 60 mph or so.

The incident was captured by Safety Vision’s PatrolRecorder 4C RHD police mobile digital video recorder (MDVR) system with removable hard drive. Sgt. Davidson pulled over while driving and came to the aid of motorist Daniel Barnett changing a flat tire on a narrow bridge shoulder as traffic rushed by.

As Sgt. Davidson and Barnett were in the midst of talking, Barnett looked up and spied the oncoming tire, just moments before the semi tire rolled onto the scene. In the nick of time, Barnett’s startled exclamation of warning prompted Sgt. Davidson to move out of harm’s way. The tire clipped the officer’s holster and bruised his leg as it whizzed along at a breakneck pace.

Police magazine features Safety Vision's digital in-car patrol video solution

Safety Vision was included in an article in Police magazine’s July 2009 issue focusing on the progress of mobile surveillance beginning with the time of analog systems, and describing the new features that mobile surveillance has as digital. As Police magazine depicts in this article, digital is the new frontier of mobile surveillance and encompasses high tech features that analog cannot compare to, such as wireless data transfer, capturing video on DVDs and using hard drives and flash memory cards for data storage. Analog mobile surveillance which involves manually removing data; capturing video on VHS tapes; and manually searching and extracting video clips is now a dated concept in the mobile surveillance world.

Safety Vision customer Lt.
Safety Vision listed in tier 1 of global mobile video surveillance market share analysis by Frost & Sullivan

Today, Safety Vision was listed in tier 1 of the mobile surveillance world market share analyst briefing by Frost & Sullivan titled “Global Mobile Video Surveillance Moves into the Fast Lane: Opportunities for Recording and Transmission Solutions”.

The market segment of this analysis included cameras, recording, and transmission products; and aircraft, police cars, taxis, transit buses, school buses, trains and tram vehicles. Safety Vision’s tier 1 status was based on overall global revenue contribution to the mobile video system market.

Frost & Sullivan reported that mobile surveillance is an in-demand market for reasons including— mass transit terrorist threats; criminal behavior; passenger and driver security; fleet and agency liability; driver performance; and vehicle vandalism.

Wireless video transfer and fleet management solutions are onboard surveillance capabilities that are predicted to add growth to the mobile surveillance market. These features reduce man hours, simplify video management storage, search, extraction, and archival for fleets. Frost & Sullivan forecast that aircraft, law enforcement, and transit fleets will increase procurement of mobile surveillance more than any other industries until 2015.

CCJ features Safety Vision collision avoidance cameras

A June 2009 article in Commercial Carrier Journal magazine focuses on improving driver safety with collision warning systems. Featured solutions include Safety Vision's rear-, side-, and forward-view camera and in-cab monitor systems. Spotlighted are the SV-CLCD-70 liquid crystal display monitor, which supports four cameras with switchable camera views, and the SV-622 side-view color camera with built-in microphone.

According to CCJ, collision warning systems improve performance and safety by offering a driver immediate feedback about driving conditions and hazards. That feedback might be in the form of visible lights or audible beeps. But Safety Vision's collision avoidance camera systems go one better: They serve as an extra pair of eyes (or two extra pairs of eyes!) to offer a comprehensive, unobstructed view of the mobile environment. And the built-in audio also serves to communicate potential hazards to the driver, from outside the vehicle.

Safety Vision founder and president Bruce Smith is featured in the article, discussing how our mobile-rated cameras and monitors improve driver visibility and thereby enhance driver safety. Other benefits he mentions include the easy installation and maintenance of these systems, which turn on and off as the driver turns the ignition on and off.

Visit the online version of CCJ's June issue to read the entire article.

Safety Vision President Bruce Smith was asked to contribute to the Industry Forum in Mass Transit magazine's April/May 2009 issue. For this monthly print and online forum, the publication taps industry leaders for opinions on the key issues impacting public transit, today.

In the May issue, Bruce joins transit directors and senior managers as well as other company presidents in discussing how the federal stimulus package is impacting the business of transit.

Smith focuses on the challenges and opportunities that agencies face as they seek their share of these newly available monies. With many categories of capital projects eligible for funding, transit agencies must decide which projects are not only the most critical but also the readiest to be funded. Tight deadlines bind the funding timeline, so agencies must move quickly to secure funds for vital projects that are ready to roll.

Any eligible project could conceivably improve an agency's business by improving services, optimizing operations, or boosting profits. But not all projects also enhance the safety and security of passengers, personnel, and the public alike. That's where Safety Vision joins the picture: our mobile surveillance solutions help agencies reduce risk, limit liability, discourage vandalism, and deter other crimes against people and property.

Should your agency decide to promote onboard security projects for stimulus money, we're ready to help you determine the best path forward:

Rex Colorado profiled in Mass Transit magazine

Safety Vision’s Mark (“Rex Colorado”) Sahinen recently appeared in Mass Transit magazine’s “Executive Predictions 2008.” Here, international transit industry leaders shared their expectations about what the coming year would bring, industry wide.

Improved technologies, increased government funding, and growing ridership were among the recurring upbeat topics. And, the industry experts concur, public acceptance of transit as an appealing transportation option is decidedly up, with bus rapid transit (BRT) emerging as one attractive alternative. Increasing awareness of environmental issues such as climate change is partially driving this trend, as is the bite citizens are feeling at the gas pump. On the down side are cost concerns: rising fuel and raw materials costs, higher capital project costs, and growing operational costs.

Certain future needs were identified, as well: the need to consider alternative fuels, to shorten project cycle times, to introduce standardized and integrated technology solutions, faster. (Safety Vision’s mobile digital video recorders [mobile DVRs] are an integral component of the transit industry’s safety and security solutions.) But overall, this public service industry is perceived to be on an upswing.

Rex Colorado was a likely expert for Mass Transit to target. One of Safety Vision’s first employees, in 2008 Colorado was on hand to help the company celebrate its 15th year in the mobile video industry. Originally a provider of rear vision cameras for increased fleet driver safety, the company now also provides school bus cameras and in-car patrol recorders to protect students, drivers, and law enforcement personnel as well as onboard cameras and mobile DRVs to increase public transit safety and security.
Safety Vision, L.P. Police Car Camera Captures Police Officer's Bizarre Near-Miss with a Runaway Tire, as Broadcasted on ABC, CNN, and FOX News

Houston TX, September 17,2009—Safety Vision, a global provider of mobile digital video solutions, made headlines on ABC, CNN, and FOX News when a Safety Vision PatrolRecorder™ 4C RHD police mobile digital video recorder (MDVR) captured a bizarre near-miss with a runaway tire. Safety Vision client Sgt. Matthew Davidson of the Harris County Precinct 8 Constable’s Office barely escaped severe injury when a 200-pound tire came unhinged from a semi truck and nicked past him at 60 mph on the shoulder of the Fred Hartman Bridge. First chance I got when I left the scene, I pulled my patrol car over and said a little prayer for the protection; said a little thank you prayer, said Sgt. Davidson. Call it divine intervention, it just wasn’t my time. Sgt. Davidson came to the aid of stranded motorist Daniel Barnett changing a flat tire on the shoulder of the bridge that resides between the cities of Baytown and LaPorte, Texas. The only injuries Sgt. Davidson sustained were a scuffed up holster...

Houston TX, February 24, 2009—Safety Vision, a leading global provider of mobile video solutions, has introduced its SV-830 day/night mobile-rated color video camera. The SV-830 camera pairs high intensity infrared (IR) illuminators with high quality audio to accurately capture the mobile scene. The SV-830 camera is a standout because it offers so many features in one solution: crisp color video, day or night performance, highest quality audio, and some of the best IR illuminators in the industry, says Safety Vision account executive Archie Doyle. And because it captures events and environments in such vivid detail, the SV-830 camera is ideally suited for the transit and school bus camera markets.
High Speed Video Access Offers Live Look-In for Better Security in Mass Transit Routes

Houston TX, August 4, 2008 — Safety Vision, a
global provider of mobile digital video solutions, introduces the RouteRecorder®
4C. This compact, mobile recorder supports four cameras, providing mass
transit, para-transit, and light rail with quality video. It features high
speed wireless video transfer rates that are 2-4 times faster than competing
products. The system can concurrently record and playback video. This allows
users to access video in real time while playing advertising content or public
information.

“The rising cost of gas is resulting in an
increased demand for public transportation. This means more video has to be
managed causing additional challenges for transportation officials,” states
Christopher Fritz, Safety Vision chief technology officer. “The RouteRecorder
4C is an economical yet robust video recorder with an easy to use interface. It
offers unsurpassed high speed data transfer and can record and play back video
simultaneously. This gives transit authorities added vehicle security with a
potential for advertising revenues to offset the cost of the equipment. Using
wireless data transfer, they can take a live look-in the bus to observe driver
behavior and manage company risk. It can also provide police real time
information if an incident occurs.”

Like the entire RouteRecorder series, the
RouteRecorder 4C has multiple input triggers that activates recording based on
user-defined actions. It reliably tracks vital information for each recorded
event using GPS mapping, speed tracking, crash
detection and recording. Safety Vision viewing software displays a location map
where the video was recorded.

About Safety Vision, L.P.

Safety Vision is a leading global provider of total mobile video solutions including onboard surveillance and collision avoidance camera systems. System features include mobile-rated digital or analog video recorders; rear-, side-, and forward-view interior and exterior cameras; LCD or CRT monitors; built-in audio; and wireless and infrared technology.
Wireless Video Transfer Capability with Safety Vision's Latest in the PatrolRecorder Series

Houston TX, May 20,
2008—Safety Vision, a global provider of mobile digital video solutions, introduces
the PatrolRecorder 4C. This compact, mobile digital video recorder provides law
enforcement with high quality video even in the most demanding environments. A Flash
solid state drive or mobile-rated removable hard drive versions are available. It
is capable of wireless video transfer which greatly simplifies data collection.

“Video recording suspect actions provides an unbiased account of events for law enforcement. This type of evidence is
becoming commonplace for supporting witness testimony. However, gathering and
securing the data is a challenge,” states Christopher Fritz, Safety Vision
chief technology officer. “Managing digital evidence is becoming another task
that law enforcement personnel have to handle. They welcome anything that makes
this process easier while maintaining the chain of evidence. Being able to
wirelessly transfer data to the main data server does just that.”

Like the entire PatrolRecorder series, it
has multiple input triggers that allow you to activate recording based on
user-defined actions. You can also record video previous to a triggered event. With
GPS positioning, speed tracking and recording,
the PatrolRecorder 4C reliably tracks vital information for each recorded
event. The Safety Vision viewing software enables you to see a map of the
location where the video was recorded as you playback the video.
