Keeping Houston Moving Safely During the World Cup

Over the past several weeks, Houston hosted seven 2026 FIFA World Cup matches at NRG Stadium, welcoming fans from Germany, Portugal, the Netherlands, Cabo Verde, Saudi Arabia, and dozens of other countries. Many of them got to the stadium the same way: on METRORail's Red Line, which runs directly to NRG Park Station.

Safety Vision has been part of that journey for more than ten years. Our onboard camera systems have operated on METRORail vehicles as a standing layer of security, giving Houston METRO the visibility it needs to keep riders safe day in and day out, whether the train is carrying commuters to work or soccer fans to a Round of 16 match.

That kind of reliability matters more when ridership spikes. METRO built an entire campaign around it, “METRO Takes You to FIFA World Cup 2026,” directing fans to stations like Stadium Park/Astrodome and running the Red Line every six minutes to keep pace with match-day crowds. METRORail became the recommended way to reach the stadium, ahead of parking or rideshare. More trains and more riders meant more value in having eyes on every car, and it's the same infrastructure that's quietly done that job on ordinary Tuesdays for over a decade.
